Ever fancied a boogie while browsing for bread?
One Dutch supermarket offered shoppers the chance to go wild in the aisles - after opening up after hours as a nightclub.
Dirk,
a supermarket in Amsterdam, opened its doors to partygoers last month
in honour of a flyer that has gone down in Dutch folklore.
According to the legend, an anonymous
flyer was left at Albert Heijn, a major Dutch supermarket, three years
ago asking for the supermarket to open up as a nightclub in the evening.
Nothing came of the flyer but the idea lived on and was finally realised at the Dirk supermarket in Amsterdam last month.
Ady
Van de Plas, a 45-year-old photographer and fashion writer who snapped
pictures at the event, said: 'It was brilliant. There were loads of
students and party-goers dressing up and it was a really good
atmosphere.
'People were
shopping and partying at the same time. There must have been a couple
of people who'd gone to do their shopping and just decided to have a
dance while they were there.
'It was weird. People were wandering off to buy biscuits and then going back to the dancefloor.
'I thought it was a great idea, it was a right laugh and it's made quite an impact in Holland.
'Maybe
it could set a trend - there were people dancing in the aisles as well
as on the portable disco floors and the bars were set up at the
checkout.'
