Taichung is an industrial city on the western coast of central Taiwan, distinguished by relatively dry, sunny weather. It’s a gateway for exploring the island’s mountainous interior, including nature areas like Sun Moon Lake, popular for boating and hiking. In the bustling city center are museums, shops and the ornate brick Taichung Station, a legacy of the Japanese colonial period (1895-1945).
Taichung (å°ä¸) has a pleasant climate and a population of over 2.6 million people, making it the third largest city in Taiwan. The city is home to many manufacturers and in recent years has experienced rapid growth in the diversity of its cultural offerings. There are also many famous night markets, such as Fengjia Night Market and Yizhong Night Market, that provide night-time excitement. Here you can enjoy delicious food and drink, and find cheap and interesting items for sale. Bubble tea, sun biscuit, and pineapple cake are popular Taiwanese drink and deserts that originally come from Taichung. Besides, Taichung has a world-class science museum, beautiful gardens, and many theme restaurants.

Wuqi Fisherman’s Wharf is located in the Qingshui District of Taichung District. When it was opened in 1989, more people started to come. It used to be a small-sized fishing village.
But because the government built Taichung Port, and levied the nearby tidelands, in order to take care of the fishing industry and fulfill the social needs, the wharf developed towards production, recreation, and tourism.
Wuqi Fisherman’s Wharf is divided into the following areas: sales area, direct sales area, food area, entertainment fishing boats, recreational parks, and leisure area nearby the wharf.
Old market is always backpack travellers' favorite. The food is always the point. Besides, the atmosphere is the incomparable charm you can never find in a supermarket. Taichung Second Public Market was built in 1917. It was famous for the delicate and pricier goods at that time so Japanese really like to go there.
It was on fire for the over-crowded shops and was rebuilt in 1936. After a century of time, it is now a 7000 square meters market with more than fifty shops and three hundred stands. The special part of the market is that it is a hexagon design. Although the separation is not clear now, the market was divided as six categories in the old times. It is famous for its food from the morning to the night nowadays.
Don't miss the famous buns, noodles, minced pork rice, and black tea. If you have time, you can visit the religious center of the market, Wude Temple. The temple honors the martial god "Guan Yu" and the sea goddess "Mazu". The market is truly the witness of the history of Taichung.
