A day in the life of a bird matchmaker

Richelle Tamayo Avila is an avicultural officer at the Breeding and Research Centre (BRC) in the Jurong Bird Park. Her job scope includes ‘matchmaking’ and breeding adult birds as well as being the nanny to chicks at the centre.
Avila feeds a hyacinth macaw, which is also her favourite breed. She says she likes them for their innocent eyes
Avila says avicultural officers have to be very devoted to caring for chicks as they are very sensitive.
Avila says some black cockatoo species are especially difficult to breed.
Avila says the most fulfilling aspect of her job is to see chicks grow into beautiful adult birds
Avila says she feels like a "proud mother" of the birds at the Breeding and Research Centre.
Birds at the centre have different feeding schedules and dietary requirements
The BRC houses around 80 chicks and 79 breeding pair
