The animals are captured in all their glory as they travel from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania all the way to the Maasai Mara National reserve in Kenya - often risking life and limb to get there.
The mass migration takes place between July and October every year, reaching its peak in August.
The animals leave the Serengeti due to the harsh drought which takes place in region causing the watering holes to dry up and the grass to die.
Dust clouds as high as 1.5metres are visible when the herd is on the move.
Photographers from all over the world flock to see the magnificent sight of their arduous 110-mile long journey.
Sergey Agapov, a Moscow based photographer who had been preparing document the journey the wildebeest for eight months found it to be fascinating.
“These animals know that deadly danger awaits them in the river, yet thousands of them readily jump into death’s face. This cannot leave anyone indifferent.”
The most notable and beautiful obstacle the wildebeest must overcome to reach the Massai National Reserve is crossing the Mara river.
Once they are over the waters, they are welcomed with fertile grass for grazing. They spend several months feeding and fattening before returning home to the Serengeti from late October after the first rains have fallen and filled up their waterholes.
Sergei added: “The most interesting part of photographing the migration is capturing them during the jump from the precipice into the river and during their run through the dust clouds”
After documenting and following their journey, Sergei expressed his admiration saying: “Watching the wildebeest I feel excitement and respect because of their bravery in the face of risk.”
Times are bad.
They should use Gnu instead of Wildbeest...
I'm quite sure many ppl dunno what is wildbeest and assume that the writer made a typo instead...
