t was almost impossible to find the cafe at Mt Hutt on 21 June during a massive Polar storm that ultimately brought 3.5 metres of snow to the mountain. After much digging, grading, shifting and pushing the ski area re-opened under sparkling sun and perfect powder beneath. Epic!
Wow.Talk about mood lighting. With dawn approaching First Tracks skiers at Coronet Peak carve up the powder during their early morning run. First tracks are available daily from 8am to 9am. Coronet Peak was the first ski area in New Zealand (and Australasia) to open, on 8 June.

Ohau ski area is located in the scenic Mackenzie region and sits proudly looking over Lake Ohau. The closest accommodation is its own Lake Ohau Lodge, only 20 minutes down the mountain road.
What a view! Opening day at Treble Cone on 27 June was perfect under blue skies and with over 2 metres of perfect powder on the slopes. These guys are overlooking Lake Wanaka with Wanaka beyond. The boutique resort town of Wanaka is the base for skiing and riding at Treble Cone.
The end of June Polar blast dished up huge drifts of snow at Cardrona, setting up the ski area for a great season due to run until 6 October. Cardrona is located between Queenstown and Wanaka.
