Hungry? Try a mammoth 1.6kg Phat Bastard Burger

IT'S man versus food and only one gutsy diner has been able to devour all 1.6kg of the ultimate burger challenge.
The Phat Bastard Challenge is 900g of wagyu beef, six slices of cheese, 200g of pork, eight rashers of bacon and eight onion rings on a homemade bun topped with special sauce, coleslaw, tomato and lettuce.The monster burger is about 9000kj, almost the total daily recommended dietary intake for a male, and would take eight-plus hours of running, walking or swimming to burn.It is the only food challenge of its kind on the Sunshine Coast and if a challenger can finish it and a small serve of chips, without being sick or leaving the table, they receive a $50 cafe voucher and a place in the Phat Bastard Finals to be held later this year.
The mammoth $32 burger is the brainchild of Longboards Laidback Eatery and Bar owner Justin Allie and head chef, Laurence Bowers.
The two were compiling a gourmet burger menu and discussing things they would like to eat when they realised an eating challenge was what they needed to build hype around their new menu."From 30 attempts only one guy has finished it all and he was only 85kg, so anyone can do it,'' said Mr Allie.Gold Coast Bulitein reporter Milena Stojceska to take the Phat Bastard Challenge yesterday.Here's her personal account of how she went:`When I realised the 1.6kg Phat Bastard Burger was bigger than my head, I knew that I needed a plan.First I would demolish the 900g of meat while tackling the dinner plate-sized white bread bun, chips and special "Phat-sauce" coleslaw along the way.I went home while on the way to Longboard's Laidback Eatery and Bar to put on my fat pants and had a bit of mineral water to help with digestion.Had I known I would be ticking this off my bucket list, I probably wouldn't have already eaten breakfast and lunch.
But by 3pm I was feeling ready for it.The chef said four guys would usually come into the Surfers Paradise bar to split the burger between them and only a few people had finished it in under 30 minutes.He told me those who came close to beating the clock usually felt incredibly ill towards the end; that some had almost chucked and that I was the only girl to ever try the challenge -- but I'm pretty sure he was just trying to psych me out.The bell rang and my heart raced at the sight of it.I took the bun off and started gorging myself on the tender patty and bacon.I thought the faster I ate, the more I could fit into my stomach.I drew a crowd who were all shocked to see a 162cm woman scoffing her way through about 10 layers of fat.By the 10-minute mark, it felt like I had been eating for days, already devouring half of the burger's guts.That's when the meat sweats began.I tried jogging on the spot, doing some squats and thought push-ups would help.After just one I knew otherwise.I kept gnawing away, adamant the heartburn would go away and not worsen the more I ate. After just over 15 minutes, I had finished three-quarters of the insides, but I was spent.I was disappointed in myself until I realised I had just smashed 700g of meat, made a respectable attempt at the chips and bread and eaten the whole salad.Then I made the mistake of asking the chef for a calorie count -- about 3000 he reckons.That answer was enough to trigger my gag reflex. I could barely breathe and needed to loosen my bra strap as I crawled back to my car.At least I can tick a feast challenge off my bucket list and will never, ever do that again.' -

John Alleman, 52, collapsed at bus stop outside restaurant that sells burgers, fries and drinks with huge calorie counts
The mascot for the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas has died of a heart attack. He was the second unpaid mascot to die in the past two years.
John Alleman, 52, collapsed while waiting at a bus stop in front of the diner last week. He was taken off life support on Monday, the Las Vegas Sun reported.
The diner is famous for its huge hamburgers, extra-fat milkshakes and fries cooked in lard.
It uses the tagline: "Taste worth dying for." Its owner, Jon Basso, told the Sun that Alleman came to the restaurant daily and encouraged passing tourists to try its calorie-laden offerings.
"He never missed a day, even on Christmas," Basso said. "People just loved him. He connected with people in a real way."
Alleman became an unofficial mascot for the restaurant, which features waitresses in nurse garb. His caricature as "Patient John" graced its merchandise and menus.
In 2011 another unofficial spokesman, a 260kg (575lb) man named Blair River, died at age 29 from what was said to have been pneumonia.
In 2012 a man in his 40s was hospitalised after he began sweating and shaking while eating a 6,000-calorie Triple Bypass burger at the restaurant.
The diner features tongue-in-cheek health warnings and casts customers as patients.
Customers are given surgical gowns as they choose from a the high-calorie menu. Basso said Alleman weighed about 82kg (180lb) at his death.
