Kind-hearted Joe Tresise opened sack-loads of 10th birthday cards sent from global response to a Facebook tribute from his mum
A shocked boy received many happy returns on his birthday yesterday – over 500 in fact.
Kind-hearted Joe Tresise opened sack-loads of 10th birthday cards sent from around the globe in response to a Facebook tribute from his mum.
Jane, 40, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma two years ago, asked friends and family to mail Joe a birthday greeting for helping her fight the illness.
She wanted to thank him for nursing her through cancer, for which she is undergoing chemotherapy.
But the Facebook request went viral and the birthday boy has been sent 540 cards from as far away as Australia.
He has also been sent cash plus video games and consoles.
Jane, of Torquay, Devon, said: “I laid out all the cards on the table and told Joe the postman had just been. He was so shocked.
“He is my angel. When I take him to the hospital, he makes drinks for all the other cancer patients.
"He sings and does the Moonwalk to keep spirits high.”
Joe said: “I nearly fell over when I saw the cards. I like going to the hospital – and I make a nice hot chocolate.”
