On the 13th anniversary of the global landmine ban becoming law, the world is coming together again to urge governments to put a full stop to the devastating harm mines still cause.
The "Lend Your Leg" campaign, which features some international stars, was launched in Geneva Thursday to build awareness and encourage people to join in the cause.
In 2010 records show that on average 12 people a day were killed or injured by landmines somewhere in the world.
Kasia Derlicka is Director of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines.
"Although there has been much progress in getting the world rid of mines, landmines continue to kill, maim and threaten daily. This is why we are now launching this world action today, together with our partners, to remind the world that the landmine problem still continues and to call for putting a final end to landmines and the suffering they cause." On 4 April, the UN Day for Mine Action and Mine Awareness, people all over the world will be asked to roll up their pant legs to show solidarity with survivors of landmines and other explosive remnants of war.
