  yeah, but last time their generation of hearing aid is the size of a handphone and not handsfree.

  Hearing aids in the 1920s were ear trumpets.

  

  They're basically what they sound like: small trumpets the size of a modern handphone. The user would put the smaller end into the ear, while the larger flared end would channel the sound directly into the ear canal.

  The fact that the user seemed to be talking means nothing. Perhaps he just heard some weird noise from afar and was saying 'Huh? What's that?' to himself.

  That is the most plausible explanation. No need to get so excited.
