A Chinese woman is suing a cinema and the distributors of domestic box-office hit "Aftershock" for wasting her time by showing 20 minutes of commercials before the movie, state media said Tuesday.
Chen Xiaomei claims the Polybona International Cinema in the northern city of Xian and film distributors Huayi Brothers Media Corporation should have told her how long the pre-movie advertisements lasted, Xinhua news agency said.
Chen, who is a lawyer, has accused Polybona and Huayi Brothers of wasting her time and violating her freedom of choice.
The case has been accepted by the People's Court in Xian, the capital of Shaanxi province, Xinhua said, citing a statement from the court.
The report did not say when the case would be heard.
Chen is demanding the companies refund her 35-yuan ticket (5.20 dollars), pay her 35 yuan in compensation and one yuan for emotional damages and write her an apology, the report said.
She has also advised the cinema to publish the advertisement times on its website, in the lobby or on its customer hotline and asked Huayi Brothers to cut the length of commercials to less than five minutes.
"Aftershock", which is about an earthquake that devastated a Chinese city in 1976, has become the highest-grossing domestic film, raking in 650 million yuan, Xinhua said.
The movie directed by Feng Xiaogang tells the story of a mother's emotional reunion with her daughter, three decades after a massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake devastated the northern city of Tangshan, killing more than 240,000 people.

.....sometimes, it's really too much
GV does it all...
1) Irritating advertisements that lasts 20 mins long on average...
2) Expensive popcorn and hot dog combos that go for anything like $8 - $12.
3) And hiring of PRC and Filipino cinema crew that gives poor service.

Avatar, special edition.
GV had been screening long advertisement since many many years already... and they NEVER start on time.. start 15mins after schedule is already very good liao
Just come into the cinema later lol. I don't see the need to press charges just like that lol. Ads are just another way they earn money right. Maybe if the cinemas can sell more tickets there would be fewer ads.
Trailers pls..
Commercial ad's no .
Wanna see her get banned from all the cinemas in sg
avatar 3d cost $20 singapore dollars in shen zhen, china
anyway, technically, she's right because time is money.
In reality,....well...reality and theory are always different stuffs

Haha.... Why sue. Just dun go there and dun buy snacks from them. LOL...
Anyway, 3D movies arent really 3D... If you've noticed... not many of the animations actually pop-out. Its almost the same as any other movie. Quite disappointing. I rather watch two normal movies then watch one 3D movie.
And the 3D glasses... my goodness... they do not sanitise the 3D specs.. Always full of fingerprints.... Inhygenic lah! Also, after cleaning the specs, you can still feel the specs are not very clear anyway.

Patronize other cinemas. I hardly watch movies at GV, pretty ex compare to others and they are not flexible. Prefer Cathay and Shaw cinemas.
Just wait to see if she will get what she demands. haha
First time heard such a news...hahahaha

I usually go to Cathay or GV.
I go GV because of the SAFRA-GV promotion where I can book in advance my tickets through the SAFRA website.... at SAFRA prices.
I prefer Cathay. They give better service, such as sending your food to your seat upon request. =) Combos are cheaper too....

Ya , service by Cathay is good.
Cathay is the best! If you use nets to pay for your movie tickets on Monday-Thursday. It only $6 per ticket. Not inclusive for 3D movie. It like student price leh.
