Singapore Environment Council head Edwin Seah suspended indefinitely from duty
SINGAPORE: Mr Edwin Seah, the Executive Director of the Singapore Environment Council (SEC), has been suspended from duty.
In an email statement to Channel NewsAsia on Thursday (Oct 13), an SEC spokesperson said: "The SEC Board has decided to suspend Edwin Seah with effect from today. We are unable to comment further as investigations are ongoing.”
There was no reason given for his suspension, Mr Seah said during a telephone call with Channel NewsAsia. But he is confident there was "no impropriety" on his part.
Mr Seah was notified of the decision via telephone on Thursday morning. He expressed shock at the decision, even though he said he had suspected that "something was brewing".
"It came as a surprise," said Mr Seah, who is on leave and was due to travel to Kiev, Ukraine on Friday for a business trip.
He would have been representing SEC at the annual general meeting and elections for the Global Eco-labelling Network, and was set to be re-elected to the board. Mr Seah said he has since been instructed not to go.
Mr Seah said he was told that he would be suspended indefinitely until the SEC convenes a committee to review his fate on Oct 19. He is now in discussions with his lawyers.
Mr Seah joined the SEC in October 2014 as Director of Communications and was officially appointed as Executive Director in April 2015.
He has 19 years of experience in the public and private sectors, including stints at the Energy Market Authority and the Singapore Tourism Board.
