all shops not really lead to one big boss. but lead to a few big landlords who own many shops. by the way the land lease is 99 years not free hold so i suspect the landlord wanted to make many money before the land take back by government.

I agree that there are some shops with really good practices and customer service, but then there are these black sheep as well..
On that topic, I bought my first phone from sim lim square. Turns out it's a year older than my purchase already. So when something happens to your phone, it's already out of warranty. I'd rather grab my next phone from a reliable phone store.
I actually bought an iphone 4, 16GB in one of the stores in Sim Lim back in 2009. And got cheated really bad. Up to this day I cringe whenever I think about how stupid I was lol.
I went around asking store by store which would offer be the best deal and I came to this store at the 3rd or 4th level of Sim Lim Square. I decided to buy from them as they were very friendly and very helpful at first.
Being totally new to smartphones let alone Apple iPhone, I did not know what 'jailbreak' was back then. I was told that I had to pay $400 on top of the phone price for a lifetime service that allows me to download any app I want without paying.
Of course I did not know jailbreaking was illegal sinceI was paying a huge sum for it and they told me they are authorised apple reseller, so I had no doubts at all. Then they convinced me by saying they download this CCTV surveillance app for free that by right would cost hundreds of dollars on the appstore.
So i bought this so called service and I have no idea how but the end bill cost $2,000++ for an iPhone 4 16GB with the added service plus idk what shit... A few days later, I found out I was scammed and I really wanted to report to the police but I had no evidence supporting it. The receipt they provided me did not have any description, just a list of prices, and the total value of those prices, which is $2000++....
I once went back there to fix my iPhone even after I learnt the truth. The jailbreak they installed for me was a tethered or untethered version, and I am not supposed to even let my battery go flat, else the phone has to be rebooted from computer and re-jailbreaked. And the situation that day was that my phone died, I brought it to the exact same store to get it fixed from the computer (after all I paid one bomb for the service, I should go back there and pester them as often as I get some small trouble right) They scolded me, and raised their voice at me, and then showed annoyance at why I couldn't just keep my phone alive and had to make them do this again. I was like wth...?!?!?
Anyway, I paid a hefty price for being naive, and obviously didn't do research on my part. Most important lesson learnt: Never shop at Sim Lim, and always check your receipt before leaving any shop.

Jover Chew and 4 others arrested over cheating cases at Sim Lim Square
SINGAPORE – Jover Chew, the owner of now-defunct Mobile Air, and four other men were arrested on Wednesday for a series of cheating cases at Sim Lim Square.
The police said they had received several reports against Mobile Air in 2014 for dishonest sales practices in which mobile phone customers were coerced into buying cell phones and in-house warranties at inflated prices.
These victims ended up paying for the mobile phones at much higher prices or had to pay fees to cancel the deal.
Chew, 32, and his shop became infamous after videos were posted last November of a crying Vietnamese tourist begging staff at the shop to refund his money.
Factory worker Pham Van Thoai went to Mobile Air to buy an iPhone 6 for his girlfriend in November 2013. At first, he was told that he had to pay $950, but another charge of $1,500 for a warranty was added.
Mr Thoai was told that if he failed to pay the additional amount, he would not only lose the $950 but also the new phone. He knelt down, pleading with Chew to return his money.
After the video went viral, online vigilantes posted Chew's personal details online, driving him out of the mall.
A crowdfunding campaign was initiated to raised funds to buy a new phone for Mr Thoai. About $15,500 was raised, with $1,538 used to buy an iPhone 6 for Mr Thoai. But he declined the gift, accepting only about $200 worth of food items from Singapore.
The five men arrested were between 31 and 38 years old.

Not every shop is bad though.
There are a few big and reputable retailers there.
A few bad eggs spoilt the market. Too bad.
