The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Government feedback arm Reach have launched a public consultation to seek views on proposed measures to designate no-alcohol zones at some public places and shorten the sale hours of alcohol at retail outlets.
In a statement on Monday, MHA said these measures aim to curb alcohol intoxication, and protect the public from "safety threat and dis-amenities caused by drinkers congregating at public places".
MHA said that some Members of Parliaments and residents living near congregation hotspots such as Robertson Quay and Little India have raised concerns in the media about these issues. It added that excessive alcohol consumption and intoxication give rise to law and order problems such as disorderly behaviour and fights, as well as public nuisance such as noise pollution and littering.
"In view of the above, MHA is looking at upstream measures to holistically tackle the problems of alcohol intoxication and public drinking in the long term," said the statement.
Siao, Robertson Quay ownself considered a drinking place, if put "no drinking" ban then whole lot of the place can shutdown le...
The problem is not ppl drinking, the problem is less ppl patroling, always citing "lack of manpower"...
And Little India, to alot of our FT here, Little India is like clarke quay to them... U designate no drinking there and put a "drinking zone" elsewhere not going to solve the problem...
infact, the problem will not be solved, just "shifted" from a place to another...

U imagine if Little india become no drinking area... then all the FT will shift to the nearest "yellow box" then the area become 2nd little india...
It's simply shifting the problem from 1 place to another...

you really think drunk will do such things? drink then give excuse to commit crmes only.
when they riot police start firing live rounds into the air - the crowd would long have dispersed! r better juts fire one round at any of those trouble makers the damage would not have been so bad already.
i wonder if the rpice of life rounds have got higher than our sg dollars is it?
