KUALA LUMPUR: A warrant of arrest has been issued for sex blogger Alvin Tan Jye Yee by the Sessions Court here for failing to return his passport, after leaving for Singapore on May 18.
Sessions Court judge Abdul Rashid Daud made the order after allowing an application by deputy public prosecutor Haffiza Jemeli on Friday.
The court later fixed July 18 to determined if Tan should to be allowed bail or not.
On May 12, Abdul Rashid had granted an application by Tan and Vivian Lee May Ling to have their passports released.
Abdul Rashid Daud had made the order after Tan and Lee’s counsel Chong Joo Tian told the court that his clients would be in Singapore to shoot a documentary film on their lives there.
The couple were allowed to retain their passports between May 18 and June 3 to enable them to travel to the island republic.
Tan surrendered her passport on June 3.
On July 18, last year, Tan, 26, and Lee, 25, claimed trial to three charges under the Film Censorship Act, Sedition Act and Penal Code.
However one of the three charges which was under Section 298A of the Penal Code, had been struck out by the Court of Appeal on April 21.

Malaysian sex blogger Alvin Tan 'not in Singapore'
The hunt is on for Malaysian sex blogger Alvin Tan after he jumped bail. But contrary to media reports, The Straits Times understands that he is currently not in Singapore.
Tan's lawyer Chong Joo Tian said his client was supposed to have returned his passport to the Malaysian police on June 3, after a trip here in May to film a documentary.
But attempts to reach the 25-year-old since June have been unsuccessful, Mr Chong told The Straits Times.
His partner Vivian Lee, who is also being represented by Mr Chong, does not know his whereabouts either. "His mother tried to contact him, we also tried to call him, but his mobile phone was switched off, and we still don't know where he is right now," said Mr Chong.

Sex blogger Alvin Tan says he's seeking political asylum in the US
Notorious sex blogger Alvin Tan, who jumped bail in Malaysia, is applying for asylum status in the US, reported Channel NewsAsia.
The 26-year-old, who claims to be in California, recently resurfaced on Facebook.
His profile picture? A nude photo with his privates blocked by a heart-shaped cartoon. (Oh, how very like him.)
The fugitive told Channel NewsAsia in an interview on Facebook: "I'm busy starting a new life here (in the US), apart from awaiting my final asylum hearing. I'm here to seek political refuge from the tyranny of UMNO - simple as that."
Tan and his ex-girlfriend Vivian Lee May Ling, 25, shot to fame over their now-defunct Sumptuous Erotica sex blog.
Confident of getting asylum status
The pair claimed trial last year to three charges under the Film Censorship Act, Sedition Act and Penal Code.
Tan failed to return his passport to Malaysia authorities on June 3 after having successfully applied to visit Singapore for a few weeks to shoot a documentary. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
He told Channel NewsAsia he is confident of getting asylum status.
"The Department of State produced a Human Rights Report on Malaysia in 2013 which explicitly cites my case as a repression of Internet speech rights."
"If all else fails, I can easily publish more 'seditious' materials on my Facebook to taunt the authorities and get them to be hot on the pursuit of me again, therefore creating an even more well-founded fear of political persecution to bolster my asylum claim," he added.
Tan has not responded to The Star Online's attempts to contact him.
