Burst water pipe causes part of Woodlands Road to collapse
Part of Woodlands Road next to West View Primary School and towards the direction of Upper Bukit Timah Road collapsed Saturday night.
In a statement, a spokesperson from the Land Transport Authority attributed the incident to a burst water pipe “which caused localised depression” on the affected stretch.
When Yahoo! Singapore visited the area at 12:45am Sunday morning, about 500 metres of the two-lane road, bordered by the junction to Senja Way and the junction between Choa Chu Kang Road and Bukit Panjang Road, was closed off to pedestrians and vehicles.
The road cave-in was located in the middle of the closed-off stretch, on the lane to the right. No casualties due to the cave-in had been reported.
At the time Yahoo! Singapore visited the affected stretch, resurfacing works were ongoing. Traffic wardens and construction workers helped to reroute traffic into nearby Senja Way.
A resident, who did not want to be named, said that he noticed the roadblock some time after 8pm Saturday night. The man said that he did not see the cave-in nor heard any noise when it occurred.
The road cave-in is bordered by construction for an upcoming flyover connecting Woodlands Road and Upper Bukit Timah Road, as well as the second phase of the underground Downtown Line. Construction works next to the cave-in were still ongoing after the incident.
