A youth was attacked late on Thursday evening outside Cathay Cineleisure Orchard shopping centre.
It's
believed the young man, aged in his 20s, was beset by a group of other
boys in the incident which took place just outside the mall's 7-Eleven
convenience store.
According to police, a call for assistance was made at about 10pm. A spokesperson told Yahoo! Singapore that
they "established that an assault had occurred", but did not confirm
whether or not a slashing took place or if any weapons were involved.
The boy was later conveyed to Singapore General Hospital for treatment, the spokesperson added.
A photo of the youth lying injured
and being helped by mall security guards which was taken by an
eyewitness, Twitter user Cara Chiang, is going viral on Twitter.
On
Thursday night, she posted the picture with the caption, "I just saw a
stabbed guy and a dude shouting a gang name at Cineleisure (sic)."
She also tweeted that he was "twitching and spitting blood".
Two years ago, a 19-year-old polytechnic student was killed in a Downtown East slashing by five gang members.
