SINGAPORE: Singapore has been ranked as the most emotionless society in the world, according to a Bloomberg News report on a Gallup survey.
The survey polled more than 140 countries to compare how people felt about their lives. Respondents were asked questions such as "Evaluate your life on a scale of zero to 10" and whether their life would be better or worse five years from now.
Singapore came in ahead of countries such as Georgia, Lithuania and Russia, for being the most emotionless society.
"If
you measure Singapore by the traditional indicators, they look like one
of the best-run countries in the world," Gallup partner Jon Clifton was
quoted by Bloomberg as saying. "But if you look at everything that
makes life worth living, they're not doing so well."
According to
the report, not many Singaporeans answered "yes" to negative questions,
and to questions measuring happiness, such as, had they smiled
yesterday, had they learnt something interesting or felt respected or
well-rested?
Only 36 per cent of Singaporeans responded affirmatively to either the positive or negative questions.
According
to Gallup's research, only 2 per cent of the country's workers feel
engaged by their jobs. The global average is 11 per cent.
"We are
taught to keep going and not make too much of a fuss," research fellow
at the Institute of Policy Studies Leong Chan-Hoong told Bloomberg.
Singaporeans still "take ourselves a bit too seriously," said general secretary of the Singapore Kindness Movement William Wan.
Other
results from the survey showed that the Danes are the most satisfied,
while people from Togo in West Africa are least satisfied, according to
the news report. The most pessimistic society is Greece, while people
most likely last year to report feelings of stress, anger, sadness,
worry or pain were Iraqis.

How accurate?
They are right.
"No free lunch"
"You die your business"
We slave for life to service over-priced material stuff which made our life more empty.
Our slavery served to benefit 5% of "I dunno what to say" and "what do you think" "talents".
There is really nothing to be emotional about.
It remind me of the Talking Point - The Vote where there is one topic "Safe to Serve?" whether is it safe to safe NS on Channel News Asia. And guess what ? About 70% of the "survey" said they didn't feel NS is tough while only about 28% said NS is tough. Uniquely Singaporean ! No wonder you read that mostly girl or foreigners the one who is interested in NS, thinking it some kind of MMORPG adventure game : http://www.channelnewsasia.com/tp/archive.htm
Boring suvey
Boring results
Times are bad.
damn stressed
The survey didn't probe far enough.
There are indeed Singaporeans from whom are heard cries of unbridled happiness and who break down with tears of unrestrained joy on a regular basis.
These people are, of course, the PAP ministers on the occasion of their receiving their paychecks.
tok cock one la this survey, they all have no idea how emotional we are all the while esp. that 7-11.
and the charlize/beta who seem unable to close their mouth at all..
Well, there really isn't much in Singapore to feel PASSIONATE about.
The PAP has been trying hard to make us feel passionate about them.... not working much.
Nonsense.
Singaporeans are very happy.
Really.

I think after the peranakan Harry Lee Kuan Yew is dead, the power of PAP will weaken.
Singaporeans are too suppressed la. Kia si and kiasu, scare to show real emotions when not in cyberspace. Afraid of this and that.
Survey is very true.

The survey is completely true and accurate.
Even Toh Chin Chye, the peranakan ally of Harry Lee Kuan Yew recognises this fact:
Final Message to the Singaporean Youths
In a rare public interview in 1997 Radio Corporation of Singapore, Dr Toh passionately bemoaned the lack of idealism and creativity among the young and its implications for the future of Singapore. He said:
“I would say the generation of the ‘50s and ‘60s took the plunge into politics without ever calculating the costs of the risk and the benefits to be gained. They were driven by ideology. Today’s generation has no culture and averse to taking political risk. Really, an interest in politics is very necessary for the future. But I cannot blame the present generations, because they see the heavy-handed response by the government to dissenting views, even though they know that these matters involve their daily lives.
So the result is that we have produced a younger generation who are meek and therefore very calculating. They are less independent-thinking and lack in initiative. It does not bode well for the emergence of future leaders in politics and business. Robots and computers can be programmed or if you like, can be trained. But the trouble, of course, is that computers lack soul and what we need in Singapore is soul. Because it is soul that makes society.”

Singapore is a very suppressed society. This greatly restricts the development of Singapore and thus our country cannot realise its full potential.
All because of one peranakan bastard Harry Lee Kuan Yew and his fear of the chinese of Singapore. He fears them so he has no choice but to suppress them, so that they cannot pose a threat to his rule.
They are less independent-thinking and lack in initiative.

For goodness sake, Lee Kuan Yew practically filled the entire cabinet with inbred Peranakans.
For the last few decades in Singapore, the top positions in civil service, statutory boards, armed forces, GLCs have all along been going disproportionately to the Peranakans.
That is one reason why Singapore has been run to the ground.
Lee Kuan Yew worked with the Japanese Kempeitai and later the British colonizers to suppress the non-Peranakan Chinese.
That's why he has always been wary of non-Peranakan Chinese and could only entrust power to his own family members and his other Peranakan cronies.

That fucking political bastard peranakan Harry Lee Kuan Yew and his minority over majority rule of Singapore.
where got?
Take a walk ard TD forum, bus forum, speakers corner...
so much angst... so much angst
Selective survey again
That is why... the real person is not that emotionaless person outside, but the ones in forums are the real Singaporeans. lol
Its ironic that while people say things like "statistics can be twisted", "statistics do not tell the whole story", we still attempt to do surveys, which are very much attempts to do things with a scientific base!
In truth, if you really want to do the survey properly and get the proper results, a mere survey tends to be biased and leads to all kinds of distortions.
In higher end research, surveys are usually only the first step to a study. One has to use statistical techniques such as regression analysis (with the best-justified type of model you choose) to study in greater depth.
****
That's one thing. The second thing is that emotions are not just behaviour. To say we are "emotionless" is not the same as "do not express emotions"!
****
And Singaporeans are terrible at doing surveys. I can attest to that, having done field surveys for govt agencies.
So dont always blame the govt at times for quoting skewed reports that sound strange. There are times where the data has been distorted by people who "can't care less", despite our pleas that these surveys are for the better good.
