SINGAPORE: Outgoing chairman of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF), Mr Gerard Ee, has described his successor, Mr Koh Poh Tiong, as a very good man.
Mr Koh, former CEO of Asia Pacific Breweries, will be taking over the reins from Mr Ee on 29 October.
Mr Ee added that there were many capable people in Singapore who had come forward to be his successor.
But finding one wasn't easy.
Mr Koh was chosen because he has a special quality.
Mr
Ee said: "My successor is one that I hold in great esteem, whose heart
is in the right place because he personally has two very close friends
who are kidney failure patients. So it's important to me that the
successor should be someone who empathises, who understands the pain and
sufferings that the patients have to go through. It's not just a
question of being efficient, but having a big dose of empathy."
