In an eight-hour multi-agency operation on entertainment outlets in the Geylang area, a total of 71 women have been arrested.
The joint operation which ended at 5am Saturday involved officers
from Bedok Police Division, the Central Narcotics Bureau and the
Singapore Civil Defence Force. Enforcement checks were carried out at
entertainment outlets and the women were arrested for unlawful
employment and immigration offences.
Operators of the
entertainment outlets were also summoned for flouting various public
entertainment, health and fire safety regulations. Cash amounting to
S$1,714, some entertainment equipment and gaming machines were also
seized from one of the outlets.
Investigations against the women and the operators are on-going.
Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner
of Police (DAC) How Kwang Hwee, commended the officers' teamwork,
adding: "The Police will continue to work with fellow Home Team
Departments and other agencies in our relentless efforts to clamp down
on illegal activities in entertainment outlets".
