SINGAPORE: A police report has been lodged against a first-year student of the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), who allegedly made racist remarks.
Police said on Tuesday, in response to queries from Channel NewsAsia, that they are investigating the case.
The student, Justin Wee, was seen in a YouTube video allegedly cracking jokes about other races.
Police said the right to free speech does not extend to making remarks that incite racial and religious friction and conflict.
They
said the Internet may be a convenient medium to express one's views but
the public should bear in mind that they are no less accountable for
their actions online.
Police said they take a very stern view of acts that could threaten the social harmony in Singapore.
Anyone who re-posts or contributes offensive comments to the postings is also liable.

If I crack a joke, a racist, a vulgar, blasphemy joke to my friend, and a friend of a friend record it and post it on the internet. Who is actually the culprit?
If what the friend of a friend made a comic book of the scene, and draw me with a speech bubble containing the jokes, who would be accountable?
Same thing different media.
Does the setting matter, a public institutiion and a private home?
This is a great article. Until today, I had no idea that freedom of speech is a Privilege and not a Right.
So...do anything you want.....curse any race you wish but don't ever get caught.

Which country have freedom of speech as a right?
A person is still responsible for what he says. And he better be careful about what he says.
Whether in the Middle East or US of A. Even in Thailand.
Freedom of speech... ha!
Try that in your social setting.

"Responsibility" in this scenario is subjected to the laws enacted by man (whether legal or societal). Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating free speech and "going ang mo" at the expense of actual harm to others. Fuck that shit.
All I'm asking is, what kind of racial and religious friction/conflict were actually provoked/caused by the contents that came from this chap's Youtube video?
It can be intentionally insensitive yes. Distasteful and moronic even. But to lodge a police report at the mere whiff of something like THIS is a fear mongering move.
Oh well... I guess you have no more rights than what others are willing to give you, yes?
