Electricity tariffs to drop by an average 2.5%

SINGAPORE: Electricity tariffs will decrease by an average 2.5 per cent for the next three months, beginning July 1.
SP Services attributed the cheaper tariffs to lower natural gas prices, which have resulted in lower power generation costs.
The average fuel oil price from April 1 to June 15, 2012 dropped by 4.6 per cent from S$136.37 to S$130.10 per barrel.
This resulted in a corresponding decrease in the price of natural gas because it is pegged to the fuel oil price.
As a result, the average monthly electricity bill for those living in four-room HDB flats will decrease by S$2.69.

if prices adjusted upwards.... they try to hide the news in fine print.

They increased
2.3% during Jan and March
4.3% during April and June.
Now... reduced by 2.5%,.. making alot of FRONT PAGE

Usually the prices of electricity tariffs is regulated by Engery Market Authority (EMA). Also there is an advertisment from SP services information on the reason of cheaper tariff recently which is the same as the news report above :
Q: Why is the electricity tariff lower next month?
A: This is because the fuel oil price over the last three months has gone down.
Q: But isn't our electricity generated using natural gas?
A: Yes, but generation companies buy natural gas at prices which are tied to fuel oil prices. This is common practice in Asia.
In conclusion: Tariff may have come down but we still need to watch our electricity usage.
