Bus driver who ran over Tan Mingwei found not guilty

LONDON: The London bus driver on trial for careless driving which killed Singaporean student Tan Mingwei has been found not guilty. The prosecution said there was not enough evidence to convict 52-year-old bus driver Shahriar Firouzian and they would not seek to take the trial further. Blackfriars crown court has heard from the judge that there was no realistic prospect of a conviction for Mr Firouzian, and a verdict of not guilty has been formally entered by the judge. The jury has been discharged. Ms Tan was hit by a bus in Hampstead, North London, on 30 September 2010. Mr Firouzian, who is from North London, denies causing death by careless driving and he told the court that he thought he ran over a bottle and then a fox, rather than hitting a person. He also said that at the time he had hit Miss Tan, he had been driving at only three kilometres per hour. - CNA/wm

3 kilometres per hour? The average human walks at 5 kilometres per hour. If he was indeed driving that slow while Ms Tan was crossing the road, there was no way his bus could have touched her. Unless she was crossing the road at 3 kilometres per hour or slower.

Over there the jury cannot come to a decision, and cannot find the driver guilty. So not guilty.
In Singapore, the judge won't give chance. Must be driver a careless or negligent, otherwise how can the accident happen. Maybe decide 60/40 blame.
