SINGAPORE: Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts Yaacob Ibrahim said he has seen changes take place in two areas since the General Elections in May last year.
Speaking to the media after a visit to the Alkaff Mosque on Friday afternoon, he said one area of change he noticed is the government stepping up engagement efforts.
"We have stepped up
our engagement and there was a call for more voices to be heard and more
voices to be invited in some of the processes," Dr Yaacob said.
"What
we have done across the government, statutory boards and agencies is to
engage as many people as possible before a policy is created or after a
policy has been thought through to get some feedback to refine the
policy."
Dr Yaacob added that the second area of change is that
the government sees more people getting information and news through the
new platforms it created on Facebook and Twitter.
"The more important point is to provide our point of view and also allow constructive debate to take place," Dr Yaacob said.
"It
is positive because we recognise that society has changed and if
society has changed, we also have to change according to the norms."
