SINGAPORE: MediaCorp has filed a police report against the operator of a website that has allegedly been using MediaCorp logos to solicit payment and services.
According to the report made by a MediaCorp representative on Friday, MediaCorp had last month received a query from Mr Manish Regmi on whether the company has a branch office in New York, and whether it was outsourcing "voice and non-voice projects".
Following up on the
query, MediaCorp discovered that a website - www.mediacorpasia.com - was
claiming it was a branch of MediaCorp, and contained a link to
MediaCorp's official website.
It also employed a number of trademarks and logos belonging to MediaCorp's various companies and business divisions.
According
to Mr Regmi, the website operator had claimed it wanted to outsource
work to him and asked him to pay US$1,000 (S$1,240). Mr Regmi also
claimed that his personal checks showed that the website was registered
under the name of "Media Corp ([email protected])".
In its
police report, MediaCorp said it was concerned that "the public will be
misled by the website to make payments for a company which does not
exist". The company does not know if anyone has made payments to the
bogus website.
In a statement, MediaCorp also stressed:
"MediaCorp is not connected in any way with this website or the
owner/operator of this website. The use of MediaCorp's name, trademarks
and logos on this website has been done without our prior consent, and
we will be taking the appropriate action to protect our rights." - TODAY
I went to their website, lol, so many spelling and grammar mistakes.
