STOMPer SGGirl is appalled to learn that Facebook
photos of some Singapore women have been exploited for use on porn and
dating sites and hopes that Singapore women can be more careful of what
they post online as they never know where their photos might end up.
In
a The Straits Times article, at least three women have discovered that
their Facebook photos have surfaced on porn and dating sites. The three
are victims of what is known as 'photo-jacking', the act of stealing
pictures from social media like Facebook and Twitter and exploiting them
for use on, say, porn sites.
One of the victims, 32-year-old
housewife Jules Rahim was shocked when a friend tipped her off last
Wednesday that a picture of her in a bikini, which she had posted on her
Facebook account three years ago, was featured on a pornographic
website.
Last Tuesday, another friend told her that the photo had
also popped up on a dating site called sgGirls.com. It was accompanied
by a caption which listed a telephone number to call and how much it
cost to chat.
Ms Rahim said, "It's embarrassing. People I know
may think wrongly of me." She has reportedly filed two police reports,
one about the porn site and the other about the dating site. She also
intends to file a magistrate's complaint at the Subordinate Courts for
intentional harassment.
The STOMPer wrote:
"Women, please think twice before posting your photos online. You never know where your photos might eventually end up.
"There are so many photos of local girls on sgGirls website, I doubt those girls are even aware of it."
