KFC ordered to pay US$8.3m to Australian girl
Posted: 27 April 2012 1448 hrsSYDNEY: Fast food giant Kentucky Fried Chicken has been ordered to pay A$8 million (US$8.3 million) to an Australian girl who suffered severe brain damage and was paralysed after eating a Twister wrap.
Monika Samaan was seven when she suffered salmonella encephalopathy -- a brain injury linked to food poisoning that also left her with a blood infection and septic shock -- in October 2005.
Several other family members also fell ill and they claimed Samaan's injuries, which include severe cognitive, motor and speech impairment and spastic quadriplegia, were caused by a chicken Twister wrap from a Sydney KFC outlet.
The New South Wales Supreme Court ruled in the family's favour a week ago and on Friday ordered KFC to pay the girl A$8 million in damages plus legal costs.
In a statement, the family's lawyer George Vlahakis said they were relieved the battle was over.
"Monika's severe brain damage and severe disability has already exhausted the very limited resources of the family," he said.
"Monika is now a big girl and they are finding it increasingly difficult to lift her and to look after her basic needs as well as look after Monika's younger siblings.
"The compensation ordered is very much needed. KFC have to date been determined that Monika does not receive a cent."
Last week, KFC indicated it will appeal the decision but is yet to do so.
During the trial, Justice Stephen Rothman said the chicken became contaminated "because of the failure of one or more employees of KFC" to follow proper preparation rules, which he described as "negligent".

it's horrible compared to normal fried chicken...
the Tenderfresh chicken guys here do it better..
and over there, you can get proper chicken at the little take-outs which are cheaper.. why eat a month's worth of sodium in 2 pieces of "chicken" at Kentucky Fried Crap?

its crispy.....dunno why but it tastes great,,if its freshly served to you.its however a differenbt story when u store it in a enclosed box when u take it home.skin gets soggy and looks like crap.thats why its served fresh is the best or transported coreectly if u take away.
churchs fried chickemn in past might tast e dull but portions seems huge in old days.rumour has it in those days chicken was direct from usa even.....thats why looks damn huge,,3 times kfc size.
normal fried chiken??eww..too fresh.i like mine frozen for a while.

I have an idea of how KFC or other FC is made. Nothing turns me off about it.

Those chickens are raised to that weight with the help of growth hormones and artificial feed, and slaughtered within 2 months of hatching. Portion sizes are reduced to make each serving appears less fatty, salty and whatever on the labels when they're not.

kfc really expensive. a piece of chicken at 2.50 and the size of the chicken meat has shrunk tremendously.
