SINGAPORE: A 75-year-old man was arrested after he tried to bribe a police officer. The man had contraband cigarettes in his possession.
Two police officers (a Corporal and a Sergeant) were on their rounds in the vicinity of St George's Road when they spotted the man acting suspiciously.
The man had 16 cartons of contraband cigarettes with him.
While he was being interviewed by the police officers, he offered S$500 to the Corporal in return for his release.
The man took out S$209 from his shirt pocket and offered it to the officer.
The Corporal rejected the bribe and arrested him.
The man has been referred to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau and Singapore Customs. Investigations are on-going.
