Woman says 'S'poreans too weak" sparks outrage online

A woman sparked a massive outcry on the Internet with an insensitive remark about the death of a full-time national serviceman (NSF) who collapsed during training on April 17.
The NSF, 21-year-old Private Dominique Sarron Lee Rui Feng, died after he experienced breathing difficulties during a training exercise on Tuesday.
After news of the NSF's death was reported online, the woman, Ms. Zheng Huiting who is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in fine arts in Australia said in her Facebook post, "Singaporeans too weak? LOL (laugh out loud)."
A screenshot of her post went viral yesterday after it was reposted on websites and online forums. Netizens were quick to condemn her actions, with many calling her 'a disgrace' and 'disrespectful'. As of last night, the post on hardwarezone had garnered more than 80,000 views and 900 comments.
STOMPer AngryBird, who came across the woman's posting, wrote:
"How could a 21-year-old girl make such an insensitive comment?
"Should let her undergo some NS trainings to see if she still can LOL or not!
"It's so insensitive of her to say what she said."
Yesterday, Ms. Zheng posted an apology on the hardwarezone forum. She also added that her first thought was that 'Singapore should have better measures as to who are able to take physical exercises'.
She has since shut down her Facebook profile page, blog and Twitter account.
Defence analyst Ho Sun Huang called Ms. Zheng's remarks 'ill-timed and inappropriate' but cautioned, "The death of a citizen soldier and national service are emotional issues that should not be taken lightly, but with the Internet, it is easy for people to say things too quickly without thinking about the repercussions."
Meanwhile, the wake of the NSF, the elder of two siblings, is being held in Tampines Street 11. A military funeral will be held on Saturday. -

That soldier died so that she could have the freedom to make that remark.
Seriously, Singapore is probably the only place on earth where its citizens actually look down on its own soldiers for the sacrifices they make.

Base on her name, sound like she is a new citizens as her name is more like the Pinyin type. Zheng - 郑, HuiTing. Whereas most most citizens don't see the pinyin unless one is a New citizens.

I thought chinese name in Singapore got two types? One is pinyin, the other non pinyin?
I have pinyin and non pinyin name in english script.

I think they remove it again, my early IC indicate both, but after renew the IC, the pinyin one is no more. And all the while, my passport only show the non pinyin one. Thus so far, if I am not wrong, your passport will only indicate once only. Plus most of the singaporean when use their english name tend to use the non pinyin unless they are new citizens which only have the pinyin type. -

This is an unhealthy phenomenon which is caused by minority group ruling over majority group in my opinion.
For example there is a term "hokkien peng" which is used in an unfavourable light.
But the biggest chinese grouping in Singapore is hokkien. The reason why this term appeared is due to minority group ruling over majority group. And this ruling group created an artificial divide among the people of Singapore. That is those highly educated and of a certain elite class must be english educated.
Those dialect or speaking non english is of lower class. But majority of Singaporeans are not english speakers. So psycologically speaking I think there is an unconscious thought in some Singaporeans to look down on their own kind.
Inside the mind of Singaporeans there is no image of someone speaking hokkien, teochew, cantonese, hainanese, hakka, mandarin, malay, tamil and you associate it with "elite", "success".
This is not natural. It is unnatural.
It is a product of a minority group ruling over majority. This abnormal situation must be destroyed.
