SINGAPORE: Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said an inclusive society is achievable in the next 10 years.
He was speaking to youths at a Mendaki symposium on Saturday morning.
Mr Tharman said the
government is putting in place various policies and investing in
training to raise productivity levels, to ensure that all Singaporeans,
and not just those at the top, benefit from economic growth.
But he stressed that this is not just an economic strategy, but a social strategy as well.
He
explained that if Singapore does not have a competitive and dynamic
economy where everyone can do well and move up socially, it's very hard
to achieve social cohesion.
Mr Tharman also urged youths at the symposium to volunteer and help the less fortunate.
This, he said, can go a long way in helping the less fortunate in the community level up.
Mr
Tharman said: "When someone else spends time and effort to help when
they needn't do it, the person receiving the help often changes and
wants to do well and wants to live up to expectations. Small little acts
on the ground, when you add it all up, feeds on itself. It becomes a
culture of helping and a culture of responding to help which is
extremely important. It's not all about government schemes, or about
redistribution... it's also about culture."

isit? then no more pap ingrats lo
An inclusive society is achievable in next decade
If Lee Kuan Yew dies in the next ten years, then some rubbish policies like suppression of chinese dialects can be lifted, then the scoiety will be more inclusive.
he urge the youth? not forced them?
every year i must clock in at least 5 hours of CIP. Lol
next time singaporeans have to hope that THOSE OTHERS will include us
Yes. Must make sure everybody pays some form of tax.
In the next ten years, starting only now?
What were they doing the previous fourty years?
Mr Tharman said the government is putting in place various policies and investing in training to raise productivity levels, to ensure that all Singaporeans, and not just those at the top, benefit from economic growth.
Can this be admission of what we have been saying all along?
Remember a previous statement, the bottom 20% have not seen real wage increase for the last few decades.
Things are not right.

Next 10 years, a lot of the ministers all retired and would probably have left already.
So not their problem.
Maybe you should tell your boss that the results of what you are doing for the company can only be seen 10 years later.
In the meantime, please tell them to continue to pay you your salary every week.
Nah, no need to tell him, lah.
He never see any results for the last 10 years anyway.
Thats his problem.
i just to marry angel, that's all.
only retards, old fossils at 80 yrs old n zombies need productivity training.if u are normal modern intelligent person, that type of training is never needed.

Just like the past slogan like “Swiss Standard of Living”, “More Good Years” etc. They just promise that this will happen 10-20 yrs later. When the time up, just come out another slogan for the next 10-20 yrs.
reminds me of tv set with no guaranntee card.
if people need to help others, means in a certain point of life the said problems were not planned against for.
the cause of problems would be: salary which would be insufficient when old even if u had cpf or not.
to solve the problems: active participation of government using their policies to plan for end result is all thats needed .
the educated and uneducated both suffer with poor policies formulated by past gov.
depending on luck would be the end result of poorly formulated policies.

Maybe the will rehash the same slogan in a few years time.
The Next Lap. (Again)

Off the cuff.
There was a report the real wage of the low income has not increased for what...like 10,20 years.
Are our lives better or worse?
Trick question.

Its somewhere in sgF lah.
Can't find it.
But the reports say something like no real increase in wage for the low income earners.
I post from memory, ok. I may lack the exact details but the gist is there.
