SINGAPORE - The police are investigating a case in which a child was apparently lured away by a woman at Ang Mo Kio Hub.
According to the police, the child was in the company of a stranger on March 18 at about 1.15pm when the child was left unattended for a short while by his mother.
The incident went viral when the child's mother wrote about the incident on Facebook. It was then circulated and shared multiple times online.
The post read: "I asked my son why you followed the lady when you don't know her at all, he reply me saying: jeh jeh (sister in Mandarin) say you follow me and I will bring you home."
A netizen, Kiasu Mummy, who came across the post then wrote into Stomp to voice her concerns.
The netizen said that parents should be more vigilant and speak up whenever they encountered such a situation.
The age of the boy involved in the Ang Mo Kio incident is unknown but according to a Stomp report, he could be as young as two years old.
Earlier this week, Stomp also reported another incident of a young boy who was also led away by a Chinese woman. This time, the child got lucky and got away from the alleged abuductor after struggling.
The contributor, Concerned Mother, of the March 20 report wonders if the posts of this kind is real, and questions the security in Singapore.
She said: "Kidnapping children cases in Singapore real? Are they true? Is Singapore really not safe anymore?
"Many mothers have voiced their concerns over such issues as some have commented that this is not the first incident that has happened in Singapore.
"The main issue at hand here is that the mummy victims have not made any report, or immediately called upon assistance from the mall security or from the public," Concerned Mother added.
She also hopes relevant authorities will clarify on the issue.
Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC Seng Han Thong spoke to reporters from Shin Min Daily News while visiting Ang Mo Kio Hub on Wednesday night and pointed out that the incident occurred on the last day of the school holidays, where a lot of parents are out with their children.
"This incident reminds us to always watch over the safety of our children, especially in crowded areas. Even with security cameras and guards present, parents must still remain vigilant and ensure their child is accompanied and safe," said Mr Seng.
Mr Seng was visiting the shopping mall with the police, AMK Hub's management team and members from the residents' committee.
He pointed out that police and the mall's management team will be watching closely to follow up on this matter.
In a statement on Wednesday, the police urged the public not to circulate unsubstantiated information which may cause unnecessary alarm.
The police also advised parents to accompany their children at all times.
Members of the public should report any suspicious activity or anyone behaving suspiciously by calling 999 immediately.

is kidnapping still a crime punishable by death sentence?
kidnapping is not death sentence
kidnapping to murder then is death sentence
was it a PRC woman?

I certainly hope so.
but looking at the way how some criminal cases are handled, I really dunno man. I am talking about those crimes by our gahmen's beloved foreign talents. Look at how the Suntec assault case was handled (the one where three ang mohs assaulted the locals and two were allowed to leave sg after being charged). Also look at the case of hit-and-run case by the former Romanian diplomat was handled. the victim was killed but the wrongdoer was allowed to return to home town in Romania.
If the female abductor and her male companion were some foreign talents and were eventually caught, will they be locked up, or just simply charged and allowed to leave Sg anyway, just like the assault case ang mohs and the Romanian? I have very little faith in sg's law enforcement liao.
The only good side of the news report is that the AMK's MP got proactively involved in the investigation and gave his word that the police will investigate.
Not forgetting the prc guy who hijack a taxi and knocked to death an cleaner at budget hotel
Vigilance is always a must, but how safe our city is depends on how many foreign criminals the gahmen allow into the country

read from another forum that the kid's mother was not certain it was a PRC, although the woman spoke in Mandarin.

she did both. that's why police also involved liao.
Report from Shin Min (omy website):
A woman has complained on the internet that a Chinese national couple tried to abduct her child at Ang Mo Kio Hub.
Ms 'Allison Goon' shared her experience on her Facebook page, explaining that she was at the AMK Hub Fiesta on Sunday (18 Mar).
She had just fed her son and walked away to throw some rubbish when she turned back and found another woman taking her son away by his hand.
She shouted after her son and asked the woman why she was holding her son's hand.
The woman, who spoke with a China accent, replied that she had "the wrong child", then walked away with another man while pretending that nothing had happened.
When Ms Allison Goon asked her son why he had followed the stranger, the boy said that the woman had told him, "follow me, I will bring you home".
Concerned about the incident, Ms Allison Goon spoke to the mall management and was advised to make a police report.
She has since done so.
The mall's management has emphasised that this was an isolated incident and advises the public not to panic unnecessarily.
The Member of Parliament who looks after the area, Mr Seng Han Thong, has also expressed concern and told reporters that the police will step up their patrols while the mall management will monitor the situation.

Because Singaporeans are angry about behaviors of some FT, like that china professor who said Singaporeans are dogs, or that student studying in Singapore who say Singaporeans are dogs, or how FT students uses Facebook or videos to bash Singaporeans... Can't remember all, but I know there was this Philipino teacher teaching in Singapore (???) who posted something on Facebook that insulted Singaporeans...
They started the fire so... yep, we add oil...
What kind of mother leaves her so young kid unattended for even a "short while"?

the woman telling lil kid that lil kid will go home with her and be satis is something like PAP telling all sporeans that they are the first and that all will be ok and they will have a decent wage job!!!!.
i have an experience when i was in primary3 school and was on way back home when i met with an auntie asking me to get into her car smiling etc etc outside school.she looked malaysian or north korean with a tanned face like she been planting rice.so i got in as a small innocent lil kid and she waited for someone else for 10 mins.when her partner never came ,she got out n told me to stay behind in car.....after she got out....i studied the car....ewww...why so rusted n old one the brakes n gear etc....so i conveniently got out of car and walked to nearby shopping centre somewhere in katong.end of story.
thinkin of it today the incident in the past somewhat resembles current PAP status to me really with its smiles.
