SINGAPORE: A Filipino man was sentenced to 30 months' jail and six strokes of the cane for molesting his flatmate when she was taking a shower.
District Judge Mr Mathew Joseph said on Tuesday that the 30-year-old man, who cannot be named, had taken "advantage of her friendship in a despicable way".
The assistant
supervisor pleaded guilty to one charge of outraging the modesty of the
27-year-old woman, and another charge of wrongful restraint.
On
June 6 last year, the woman was taking a shower in the bathroom of the
flat they shared when she saw him standing at the bathroom door.
The man, who is married and has a six-year-old son, went on to kiss her face and neck.
He later overpowered her and touched her groin.
The woman managed to escape to her bedroom.
She told another flatmate about the incident.
Defence lawyer Mr Rajan Supramaniam said his client realised that his act was "very foolish" and has apologised to the woman.
The court also heard that the man, who is a first-time offender, will also not be able to remain in Singapore.
