SINGAPORE: Three Bangladeshi workers were injured after an incident at Kranji Water Reclamation Plant.
A statement from national water agency PUB said the incident happened on February 23 at 11.30am.
It is the first time an explosion has occurred at PUB's water reclamation plant.
The
trio, who are contract workers, were working at an empty sludge storage
tank when an explosion occurred at an adjacent sludge storage tank in
the plant.
They were sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
One
of the workers, who is aged 36, was discharged on the same day. The
other two workers, aged 28 and 34, sustained head and leg injuries.
They are now in stable condition.
As
a safety precaution, PUB has suspended operations of the sludge tanks
while the Manpower Ministry conducts its investigations.
PUB said used water treatment operations at the Kranji plant continues without interruption.
It has diverted sludge produced in the water treatment process to Changi Water Reclamation Plant.
Dewatered sludge is stored in sludge tanks at the used water plants and removed daily for incineration at Tuas.
