BINTAN, Indonesia: A Singaporean man drowned and another was missing after high waves struck while they were swimming off Indonesia's Sumatra island on Saturday, police said.
Three Singaporeans were swimming off Trikora beach in Bintan island when they were dragged out to sea.
"One of them managed
to swim to shore and sought help from local people," the police chief
in Gunung Kijang town, Rahmat Djantan, told AFP.
A body was found 30 minutes later.
"Rescuers are still searching for the missing man, aged 41," he said.
The
three were followers of the moderate Tabligh movement, whose
missionaries travel the globe to preach Islam. Police said they had been
on the island for 40 days.
