DPM Teo on S'poreans emigrating

SINGAPORE : In the last decade from 2000 to 2010, an average of some 1,000 Singaporeans renounced their citizenship annually.
Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean released these figures in a written answer to Opposition MP Pritam Singh, who asked if the government has devised strategies to address the reasons why Singaporeans decide to emigrate.
Mr Teo said the reasons for emigration vary.
Some indicated that they prefer a different living environment, while others emigrated due to their marriage to foreigners or to reunite with family members overseas.
Mr Teo said the government's focus is on ensuring that Singapore remains the best home for all Singaporeans.
Beyond developing an attractive living environment and a thriving economy which sustains good jobs for its citizens, Singapore also needs to strengthen the bonds that Singaporeans have with one another and with the country.
Mr Teo said the government will continue to engage Singaporeans studying and working abroad.
Through efforts such as the Overseas Singaporean Unit's programmes, it hopes to help this group maintain strong ties with Singapore to facilitate their eventual return.
In a separate reply to Opposition MP Sylvia Lim, DPM Teo said that from 2006 to 2010, about 3,000 second generation Permanent Residents who served National Service (NS) subsequently applied for Singapore citizenship.
Sixty of the 3,000 citizenship applications were rejected.
Mr Teo said this was due to the applicant's adverse record, and/or because the applicant did not qualify for citizenship on his own merits.

Anyone is overseas or has friends overseas?
Ask them about the "Overseas Singaporean" program that the govt is spending on to woo them.
The govt sends them mail every month with wonderful news about Singapore, gives them free thumb drives, discount cards etc.

They publicize this program for Singaporeans who are leaving to work or study overseas.
Sometimes they book a park in Melbourne or New York and serve free Singaporean food to make you homesick. To have a taste, you must sign up for OS.

Don't worry, there are many who migrate to Singapore anyway. SG does not suffer from Brain Drain.

if nothing's being done to stop the flow of more foreigners taking up more jobs in Singapore,then more will emigrate!if the Govt. have these ideas of filling up all the positions with FTs there are limitless supplies fr China,India,Philipines,Myanmar,Malaysia or Europe!already in most ompanies the locals are already in the minority,only those not affected are the civil servants and the politicians,so these people in power and the making decisions powers for the Govt. don't know the sufferings of the ordinary people.!they are living in their own ivory towers!

They need more dumb singaporeans to stay behind to become slave for life.
So, they can milk more money from these dumb people to sponsor their bonus.
Before they tell sinkie what to do, ask themselves whether they have properties oversea and whether their kids are living overseas. (Ask Uncle Peanut and Uncle Tony where are their kids now)
Those that stayed behind are further screwed from price increase left, right, center upside down. (For ah kong companies to make more $$$$$$$$)
Therefore, who want to stay behind to be second class cheaper citizens ?

its been like minority sporeans in workplaces since 1990s or even 1980s.
job agents..job agencies....gov laws that help to destroy sporeans and humanity eventually.

No offense, but there is no true born- Singaporeans anymore. That was centuries ago. Today, more than 90% of SG's population have foreign ancestry... be it from Southern China or Southern India or Western Europe or the Malay Peninsula. SG is an ''immigration nation''. Immigration keeps SG alive and pumping. It has pros and cons lah, of course, as you guys mentioned above. SG is too globalized to cater for a truly unique population. the only unique thing left in SG is Singlish, but even that is discouraged by the government... which is sad, cause I think Singlish is what makes SG different, from lets say Hong Kong. Oh well.
