SINGAPORE: Fifty-one-year-old Sikendar Sellamarican was first locked up in 1988 for having sex with a 10-year-old boy, and was again jailed in 1994 for sexually preying on a 13-year-old boy.
Within two years of his release in 2008, the street vendor returned to his old ways - by having oral sex with an intellectually-disabled boy.
On Wednesday, Sellamarican was sentenced to 18 years of preventive detention for the crime.
The
judge described Sellamarican as a "real danger to young boys" who
should be locked away for a long period of time, due to his previous
offences as well as his "predilection of young boys".
The court
heard that the tall and thin man befriended his 11-year-old victim and
his friend at a playground. He then treated them to fastfood at a
McDonald's restaurant.
Sellamarican brought the two boys to a
building in Syed Alwi Road, where he asked one of them to lie down. He
then removed the boy's pants and underwear, before performing oral sex
on the boy.
The act was witnessed by the boy's friend, who later ran off.
Sellamarican was spotted by both boys some time later and a police report was made, resulting in his arrest.
Sellamarican, who pleaded guilty in November 2011, told the court on Wednesday that he wanted to retract his plea of guilt.
However,
District Judge Mathew Joseph rejected this, as Sellamarican was unable
to give good or sufficient reason to do so. The judge told the accused
he should have understood the nature and consequences of the plea.
