STOMPer JT came across an online posting by a China
national who is now a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR). The secondary
school student said in his post that he plans to leave the country
without serving his National Service (NS).
The STOMPer elaborates:
"I came across this facebook post by a teenage China national who is now a PR.
"He is currently studying in a local secondary school.
"I am extremely appalled by his attitude towards his permanent residency status in Singapore.
"He apparently does not like Singapore and wishes to leave without serving National Service (NS).
"Are these the kind of immigrants that Singapore has in its midst?
"The
Singapore Government should seriously review its immigration policies
to prevent the influx of foreigners who are merely here to benefit from
our education system and then leave for greener pastures.
"What is even more shocking is that his Singaporean friend agreed with his views and also wants to leave Singapore.
"Perhaps
the Government should also review the National Education curriculum in
schools so as to foster a greater sense of belonging among Singaporeans
to the country as well as emphasise the importance of NS to the
country."
they are not pure blood, should not be allow into any camp area
They are here for the free education.
Who want to waste their time and risk their life on protecting a place which is not their country ?
I dun blame the student for that statement as they are just expressing their honest opinions.
There are too many dump stompers picking up stupid issues from the facebook.
This is not his country, of course he has no interest whatsoever in serving NS.
War time use this type of people also dangerous as they might betray and defect.
Rights, privileges and obligations of PRs should be reformed.
if u are him, u would, too, rite?
would loyalists be rewarded?
Why PAP is so shameless as to beg for these people to become PR and then push them into citizenship?
PAP, please don't behave in such a shameless manner.
Singapore boasts a highly competitive and well-regarded primary and secondary education system, but the number of Singaporeans completing a tertiary education is relatively low.
Only 23 percent of Singaporean students entering primary school complete a degree at a local four-year university.
In other knowledge-economies such as Japan's, around 50 percent of students complete a university degree.
However, according to Cheryl Chan, Assistant Director of the Planning Division at the Ministry of Education (MOE), the government does not plan to encourage more students to get a higher education.
The university enrollment rate will continue to be maintained at 20-25 percent because the Singaporean labor market does not need everyone to get a four-year degree, she asserted.¶10.

You give them money, I also doubt they will vote for you, PAP. You gave me money I also voted for opposition. I will never vote for PAP.

And the govt will tell u what.....this is globalisation. Cannot be avoided.

This. If the government offered the same freedom of choice to local pre-NS men, does anyone really think even half of them would choose to sacrifice their 2 years of life for it?
anyone here knows if LKY is in switzerland somewhere in the Alps skiing in the white snow hills overlooking mont blac or is he in Auckland looking at the beautiful sunset in cool nice mountain next to a giant olympic swimming pool?
if one cant have a switzeland after so many decades....why bother???...might as well go to some switzerland-like places instead.air is fresher n cooler.
Make sense. If you are working temporary in a foreign country, you apply for visa, working permit or working pass. If you stay there for more than five years, you can apply for PR. But that does not mean you would want to give up your citizenship in the foreign country.
Perm. residents just mean a resident who stay there rarer "long".
If I go Taiwan, korean and etc., apply for PR, do you expect me to do NS there? I dont know why SG gov is so weird in this world.
LB,
If you and your dad can become millionaire and leave this country, then you can save the two years and the rest of your adult years sweating two weeks per year till you are forty year old.
There is seriously no meaning in serving NS despite all the fancy reasons given.
It just make you a better slave in obeying orders or you want to take two years out of your life to be slack.
I do not support the ideas of "because I have suffered, so you have to suffer" mindset.
You can better spend your two years to making the world a better place or do something else that you want to be.
Getting a PR to do NS is like asking a tourist to do National Service.
that;'s why they also wanna go NS - like holiday
