SINGAPORE: Flights were delayed and several planes diverted to nearby airports after a Singapore Airlines cargo plane skidded off the runway at Changi Airport yesterday afternoon.
Local television channel NewsAsia reported a statement issued by Changi Airport Group that the aircraft veered off the runway after landing around 4.40pm.
No injuries or damage were reported and the plane was able to taxi to the parking bay on its own.
The runway was closed for inspection, and re-opened at about 6pm.
As a result of the incident, some departing flights were delayed.
Five Singapore Airlines and SilkAir planes opted to land at Paya Lebar Air Base.
These included SQ298 from Christchurch to Singapore, SQ863 from Hong Kong to Singapore and SQ232 from Sydney to Singapore.
According to the report, a spokesperson from Changi Airport Group said other planes opted to land in Johor and Kuala Lumpur.
SIA Cargo said it will assist in investigations. — Bernama
I wonder how the reporter can have the integrity to do his news report without a single mention of the airline.

Look at what this cocksucker wrote to the ST Forum:
I REFER to Wednesday’s report (‘Change of editor at The Straits Times’). I first met Mr Han Fook Kwang eight years ago during a function held at News Centre – the Singapore Press Holdings’ headquarters in Toa Payoh – where he and his colleagues took the opportunity to thank and show appreciation to readers who contributed to the Forum Page.
What struck me then was that he was a person who gave serious consideration to readers’ feedback – both positive and negative. This motivates many readers to write in to share their views on a diverse range of issues.
Mr Han was instrumental in strengthening the Forum Page, which is a must-read for most ST readers, so much so that it has become a national institution.
He once gave an apt description of the Forum Page: ‘If you read, say, a week’s worth of letters, you’d have a pretty good idea what’s bugging the population.’
Finally, many thanks to him for producing a paper that reports objectively, without fear or favour.
