SINGAPORE: Veteran opposition politician Goh Meng Seng from the National Solidarity Party (NSP) has decided to let his party membership lapse by the end of the year.
In a blog posting, he said he has informed both the President and Secretary-General of the NSP of his decision in September this year.
But he said this does not mean he is quitting politics for good.
He
said there are other things he can do to contribute towards the
political democratic development of Singapore other than joining a
party.
He added that some of these things need Singaporeans to be non-partisan to be effective.
Mr Goh said some plans have been drawn up and said he will announce them later.
The
NSP did not win any seats in the May general election despite being the
opposition party to contest the largest number of electoral seats.
Mr Goh joined the NSP in 2007 and was its Secretary-General from February 2010 till June 2011.
