SINGAPORE: Singapore's former president SR Nathan and his wife have been honoured for their contributions to the country's scouts and girl guides movements.
At a farewell ceremony held on Saturday by the Singapore Scout Association and Singapore Girl Guides Association, Mr and Mrs Nathan were presented with Long Service Awards.
As Chief Scout of the Singapore Scout Association for over a decade, Mr Nathan had been a pillar of strength and encouragement.
Every year, he launched Job Week, which he believes will enhance the value in labour and honest work.
Job Week also imbued confidence in the young scouts as they interacted with the public.
Mrs Nathan was conferred the Asia-Pacific Region Appreciation Award from the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
This was for her exemplary leadership as Patron of Girl Guides Singapore and for being an excellent role model for women.
Mrs Nathan had been credited with helping improve the image and impact of Girl Guiding in Singapore.
