SINGAPORE: Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is confident of achieving the vision of providing a better life for all in the country as stated in the President's Address at the opening of the 12th Parliament.
Speaking in Parliament on Thursday on the debate on the President's Address, Mr Lee noted that MPs have raised many issues affecting Singaporeans.
Looking forward, he
said Singaporeans need to ask themselves whether the nation can thrive
in a new environment and if the people can build a stronger society and a
better home.
Mr Lee said he is confident that the answer is "yes".
To do so, there is a need to address three aspects.
They
are: an inclusive society that leaves no one behind; a vibrant economy
that improves all lives; and a constructive politics that puts Singapore
first.
Mr Lee explained that an inclusive society is one where
everyone benefits from the progress of the nation, where everyone has a
stake and a sense of belonging and where everyone aspires to do better
through their own efforts and feels they have a real chance to move up.
And he stressed that Singapore will succeed by standing together.
But he also acknowledged that there are problems besetting many mature societies.
That's
why after the May General Election, he had asked Deputy Prime Minister
Tharman Shanmugaratnam to review social policies comprehensively, not
just looking at the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports
but multi-ministry issues.

i wait for them for around more than 10 years already!!!!!no results so i had no choice but to reluctantly find alternate choice.
the greatest concern of any citizen is income disparity vs costs of living....
the all inclusive society, vibrant economy and constructive politics sounds confidently good.....but stilll boils down to....
DELIVERY .....i have mentioned participative politics as a key driver of political sustainability ...
first, u would need to revise a total change at the top....aside, the success of a potent opposition party has made them rework, rethink, REACT....they are responding....
opposition talents management inc. must continue to keep them on their toes....

Singapore is Shangri La.
the move by defence ministry to allow more full time NS men to drop out for university education is certainly good...but generations of soldiers have been sacrificed and robbed of their dream vision....
there are still more they could do to balance up the opportunity lost and cost for males to females
what we are purely asking for is a balance....
this, they took generations of males for a ride before changing lives a little bit better ... there are still many old scores to settle...
Talk talk talk is useless. We have been hearing the useless arrogant pariah repeating "no one will be left behind" so many times. Nothing is taking place to prove he is practising what he preaches.
Always talk so superficially, who don't know. Get paid the highest to remain stagnant and using same old words to "pacify" people. This won't work.
All he talks about in this article is as good as he did not say anything. He must have been using the same template.
neber mind...its been years...so what is another 5 years to see the delivery....and another strong injection of constructive oppositional voices to balance the political landscape....
five years does matter to some people. They will not deliver. They are in for the money, serving the people is not important , it is secondary.
