SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is reorganising its professional wing to deepen expertise and deliver a holistic and values-driven education.
This is in line with the emphasis given to values and character development made at the recent MOE Work Plan Seminar.
The changes to the organisational structure of the professional wing will take effect from mid-December.
Three
new Deputy Director-General of Education (Deputy DGE) posts will be
created to strengthen the professional wing's senior leadership team.
Mdm
Low Khah Gek will be appointed as Deputy DGE (Schools) cum Director of
Schools to oversee operations and management of schools.
Mr Wong Siew Hoong will be appointed as Deputy DGE (Curriculum) to oversee the overall curriculum.
The
Director General of Education (DGE), Ms Ho Peng, will cover the work of
Deputy DGE (Professional Development) who will oversee the professional
development of all education officers, while driving a strong
professional ethos and standards in the service.
MOE will also set up a Student Development Curriculum Division.
The
new division will give greater focus on areas such as character and
citizenship, values education and co-curricular activities.
It
will develop a character and citizenship framework by building on
existing programmes in national education, co-curricular activities, and
civics and moral education.
To provide greater support to
schools, MOE will set up a Programme Coordination Office to enhance the
coordination and integration of initiatives within the ministry.
It will also look into the prioritisation and pacing of initiatives to be implemented by schools.
The
ministry will also set up a new Partnerships in Education Office (PEO)
to enhance constructive engagement of parents and public consultation on
education issues.
