HONG KONG: An
auction of watches and jewellery from the estate of the late Hong Kong
singer-actress Anita Mui fetched US$873,000 - double than what was
expected.
One of the highlights of the collection is a pearl and
diamond necklace with matching earrings, which drew the highest bid of
some US$200,000 at the Sotheby's auction.
Carved with gold
feathers and encrusted with 16-carats worth of rose-cut diamonds, the
singer had worn it on-stage during her final concert appearance in 2003.
The Cantopop diva died in 2003 after a battle with cervical cancer.
The proceeds of auction will be used to fund monthly payments to Mui's mother and for management and maintenance of her estate.
