In a move to let more older Singaporeans work longer, the Government is reducing the list of workers who do not get to stay on the job till the retirement age of 62 and be offered re-employment.
The list of 26 categories will be reduced to 13, and among those removed are polytechnic and university lecturers, doctors and dentists working in hospitals on fixed-term contracts as well as pilots.
But the cabin crew of commercial airlines and public officers in the uniformed services, such as the police, civil defence and the armed forces, continue to be exempted from the Retirement and Re-employment Act.
The new and shorter list, published yesterday in the electronic version of the Government Gazette, will be effective on Jan 1 next year, the same day the Act takes effect.

But when one is financially unsound, he's got no choice but to work, regardless of ability.
What is retirement age of 62?
A worker at age 62 can retire. Hurray!
And then what?
