More employers are wiring up their homes with closed-circuit television systems (CCTVs) to monitor their maids, but at least two maids have raised questions about the invasion of privacy.
Last month, a maid known as Chona De Guzman posted a comment on the Ministry of Manpower's (MOM) Facebook page asking if it was right for her employer to install a CCTV camera in her room.
It prompted a reply from another maid, Ms Joan Asequia Gonzales, who said she faced the same situation at her employer's home.
'I don't have privacy,' she wrote in the post.

it's a two way street ...
many employers would put hidden cctv in the house when they are not around ... how else did you think those maids who abused babies and invalid old folks, or put sanitary pads or urine into the soup pots were caught ?
employers these days doesnt trust their maid with their kids or even their food. the feeling is mutual too, maids dun trust their employers.
even parents and children do not trust each other so you think they will trust the maids meh
Sir put CCTV in the maid's room, lah.
Can or not?
Damn, even maids get internet access these days. Seriously something isn't very right here.
me not much experience with all this, but what would people think is the main cause of all the mischief by the maids?
revenge due to ill-treatment? or simply bad eggs?

He wants to see another pair.
Put CCTV in the kitchen ==> I can still somewhat understand, considering the cases of maids putting urine into sir's morning coffee or Ma'am's red bean soup.
Put CCTV in the maid's room ==> now that's voyeurism.
CCTV in maid's room is over the top already lah.

will you like it if your parents put a cctv in your room?
i am sure you'll feel awkward knowing they can see your every move.

ehhh... I agree that putting CCTVs in the maid room is extremely wrong... It's like violation sia...
but cannot use your quoted example... as a child, u might feel awkward and angry, but as a parent, they are concerned...
