Former Senior Minister Professor S. Jayakumar has stepped down from the Presidential Council for Minority Rights.
Parliament House said in a statement on Friday that Prof Jayakumar, 71, resigned his council seat from Thursday.
Prof Jayakumar has been a permanent member of the minority rights council since July 1998, when he was the law minister.
The statement said that Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong, who chairs the council, accepted Prof Jayakumar's resignation and thanked him for 'invaluable contributions and strong support of the Council's work despite his heavy commitments'.
