A WOMAN was charged on Tuesday with ill-treating her seven-year-old nephew by tying up his hands and legs.
No plea was taken from the 47-year-old dishwasher.
The name of the victim is being withheld to protect his identity.
The plump and short woman, who was not represented, is alleged to have tied the boy's hands to a metal beam attached to the wall using a piece of cloth, and tying his legs to a PVC pipe attached to the sink with another piece of cloth in the kitchen.
She is said to have committed the offence at a Teck Whye Lane flat between last Friday and Sunday. The woman was taking care of the child and her five-year-old brother, who was found dead on Sunday morning.
If convicted, she faces a fine of up to $4,000 and/or a jail term of up to four years.
