A MAN has been accused of a cheating offence he allegedly committed 11 years ago while posing as a senior police officer.
Goh Eng Leng, 47, a former mechanic who is now a taxi driver, allegedly deceived Mr Chan Seng Huat, 49, into believing that he was a superintendent of police attached to the Volunteer Special Constabulary.
He is accused of duping Mr Chan into paying him $24,000 on Sept 1, 2003.
Goh also faces a second charge under the Passports Act of having a false Singapore passport with an altered expiry date in Shanghai, China on Oct 19 last year.
He is represented by Mr Sunil Sudheesan of RHT Law.
If convicted, Goh faces a jail term of up to three years and/or fine for cheating.
The other offence is punishable with a fine of up to $10,000 and/or a jail term of up to 10 years.
A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Aug 18.
