Aware 'disappointed' with all-male Cabinet

SINGAPORE'S women advocacy group Aware said on Thursday it is heartened to see an increase in the number of women office-holders in Parliament.
But the Association of Women for Action and Research (Aware) also registered its disappointment at the lack of a woman minister in the new Cabinet line-up, which Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced on Wednesday.
Singapore lost its first woman minister, Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, when her Aljunied GRC People's Action Party (PAP) team lost to the Workers' Party at the General Election on May 7.
The number of women office-holders, however, has grown from four to five.
Former Nominated MP Braema Mathi said at a media conference yesterday that the leadership in Singapore's highest decision-making body did not reflect the country's pool of educated and talented women.
Noting that several male newcomers have been appointed to political office, she said: 'I find it impossible to believe that, despite the track record the women MPs have, the Government cannot take an equal risk with the women.'

I'm sorry but none are ready for full minister, what do you expect besides Sim Ann and Halimah? You want triple promotion?
Good that Lim Hwee Hua never made it to full minister position. Her career should have been cut short a long time ago.

AWARE has always been full of talk but no action. They cannot settle their own internal problems (remember?), yet like to stick one foot into someone else's.
They should realise the cabinet involves running this country, not for keeping their collection of kate spades. If they are so good, they should put one of their representatives up for cabinet. If no woman is up to the task to take care of this country, she don't belong there.

u see.....they enact policies to make 90% of the men suffer, yet enjoy themselves the male oriented cabinet....so they thought they had done a lot for women downline....

I am disappointed that Aware women are not made to serve 2 years National Service. After they have serve 2 years NS as commandos than they are fit to talk about equality with men

cannot agree further....
i think its even better to pull them down and put them under women charge....and the women report to 90% of us on how they feel about life stuffed in a female dominated cabinet

Does AWARE like affirmative actions.
Put a woman in the Cabinet for the purpose of putting a woman there.
Of course it is not that there no qualified women around. There are, but they are not at the place AWARE wish them to be.

AWARE = HAPPY !!

AWARE doesn't even have the support of most women. It is not fit to claim to represent women.

Actually it is true.....how come no women....
It does seem strange....
Even countries which are "less developped" such as Indonesia Malaysia......they have women ministers......
Hong Kong has women ministers...

It is strange in the era of sex equality that aware is making noise about such a petty matter.
They can still deliver their issue through male ministers.
Does they need some one female to be there just to satisfy the number ?
How bo liao they can be or they just making noise for the sake of wayang ?
They better go and do some thing useful instead of wasting time on this matter.

No new candidates coming from the private sector, all new candidates coming from civil service, army.
The imbalance is even more significant than man vs woman cabinet minsters.... -
So many capable women MPs that could potentially be ministers.
Unfortunately, ability is not a pre-requisite.
They want yes-men.
Or in this case, yes-women.
