PETALING JAYA - SOME 2,000 pupils of all races in six states are without birth certificates, said Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam.
The Human Resources Minister said his ministry was working with state Education Departments to trace their parents.
'It's an ongoing effort to address the issue of children whose births have not been registered,' he told reporters after launching the 1Malaysia Community Programme at SJK (T) Puchong on Monday.
'Our next step is to find out why the children do not have birth certificates.'
So far, the information about students without birth certificates had come from Sabah, Sarawak, Kedah, Perlis, Pahang and Johor, said Datuk Dr Subramaniam.
He also said 2,000 applications for citizenship, birth certificates and identity cards under the MyDaftar campaign had been approved.
