STOMPer Jui Lin witnessed these ungracious Singaporeans
rushing into the elevator while this girl in a wheelchair waited
patiently for her turn.
The STOMPer described:
"A
handicapped girl in a wheelchair awaits her turn to get into the lift at
Sengkang MRT while all the ungracious able-bodied Singaporeans rush in.
"Why the authorities at Sengkang MRT cannot put up a sign
saying "Please give way to the elderly, children, those with prams and
those in wheelchairs" is beyond me.
"I have written to them about this matter so many times."
This wouldnt in japan i bet. Only for kiasu people.
I always say if you go to Taipei take their MRT, you would realise how much better their MRT commuting culture + MRT standard compared to us.
Yup, kiasuism, most visible, only in singapore.
Why must always suggest put up signs, notices, or warnings.
The cause of this is lack of education, from childhood, a generation ago.
How can parents teach their children civility, if they themselves lack it.
when i saw this elevator, this is a good way of providing good service
when i saw those able bodied people using it, i thought to myself: These people do not have a sense of shame at all!
this elevator is meant for those handicapped and elderly, not those able bodied
Access to the lift should be from the Station Control office.
The person who wants to use the lift, presses a call button, the Station staff assess the caller through CCTV, and remotely opens the door to the lift.
If the caller appears able bodied, he would be asked why he want to use the lift which is for wheel chair bound or old people.
A footballer with knee problem, should well use the escalator, and not be a wimp.

you are spot on. low or no education the previous generations. how can they teach their children manners, when they were not taught by their parents basic manners. its a vicious cycle really. plus chinese people are now known for their manners, even for highly educated and well brought up people.
This is a world where everybody has to fight like fuck and fight dirty just to even exist, so I have no problem with them.
as if ppl would heed the signs.
they are lazy to use stairs and esclator
this is the sengkang lrt, quite common. i also dash in, cos i lazy walk to another lift
